Folkestone Quarterhouse celebrates a season of fantastic comedy
With a substantial but intimate space, Folkestone Quarterhouse is the perfect Kent venue in which to catch
the most current touring comedians. This spring, the venue's programme includes hip-hop comedian, Doc
Brown; activist, Mark Thomas; and Radio 4 regular, Jeremy Hardy.
Doc Brown: The Weird Way Round
Fresh from his sell-out UK tour, Of Mic And Men,
a starring role in the hit show Law and Order,
and singing with Ricky Gervais on the YouTube
viral, Equality Street, rapper-turned-comic Doc
Brown is back! With his unique take on life, love
and lyricism, Doc Brown’s The Weird Way Round
demonstrates the lightning speed wit of this rising
star. This extraordinary entertainer is not to be
missed. Thursday 16th April, 8pm. Price: £14.
Mark Thomas: Cuckooed
Quarterhouse favourite, Mark Thomas, returns
with his Edinburgh Fringe hit, Cuckooed; a tale
of hubris, planes, demos and undercover deceit
told by an award-winning performer. Ten years
ago, a fellow activist and close friend of Mark’s
was exposed as a spy for BAE Systems, one of
Britain’s biggest arms manufacturer. Now, Mark
wants to find him and has some questions. It's
a comedy of betrayal that tries to unearth what
it means to be spied upon by a corporation under
the sanction of the state. Cuckooed comes to
Quarterhouse as part of Election – Festival of
Democracy on Friday 24th April, 8pm. Price:
£15/£13 concessions.
Jeremy Hardy
Finishing off the spring comedy season is Radio
4’s Jeremy Hardy. Hardy begins his fourth decade
as a stand up this year. That’s a more dramatic
way of saying he started 31 years ago and,
without a lottery win, probably has at least another
31 years to go. Last year, the 10th series of
Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was
broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for
his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry
I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently
said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”.
Saturday 2nd May, 8pm. Price: £14/£5 registered
unemployed.
