INTERIORS AROUND THE WORLD cont.
Venetian
When considering design ideas for a Venetianthemed home, you should be thinking ‘opulent’
and ‘impressive’. These words sum up how
decadently gorgeous Venetian designs can be,
and how your home will look when you are
finished.
Inspired by romantic architecture, rich and tasteful
materials, and natural stone, it’s not just Venice
that benefits from this look; now you can have
it too. It gives a home a certain class that could
be just the style you’ve been looking for.
If you cannot add authentic marble to your
interiors, then invest in some good quality faux
marble. Either way, the look is just what the
Venetian style is all about. Marble finishes can
be added to kitchens and bathrooms easily, and
with a little thought, can even be brought into
the living areas – what about marble shelving or
mantelpieces? Alternatively, for something truly
statement-making, marble tiles can be placed
on one wall as an accent.
Colours for the Venetian style should be rich jewel
tones such as wine red, deep purple, and dark
green, further highlighted with cream and gold
to add that classical, luxurious air. Speaking of
gold, the Venetian style needs a lot of it, and a
fun (and bank-balance pleasing) way to do it is
to add gold leaf paint wherever you can (and
wherever it looks great). You can add it to mirrors,
100
wooden furniture, picture frames, light fittings,
and anything else you can think of.
Damask is an excellent fabric to use in your
upholstery and curtains, as it is lavish and long
lasting, light and sumptuous, and will look good
all year round. Hanging damask and tapestries
on the walls will give you the magnificent look
you are going for.
If there is one piece of furniture that should be
featured above all others, it is the chaise longue.
This piece of furniture is a must-have, and can
be used as seating in a living room, bedroom or,
if there is enough room, in a bathroom too!
