Easy Sunday: Folk Art // 2 Nov
The Making of Mr Turner // 20 Nov
Try something new in the gallery every week with Turner Contemporary's
Easy Sunday activities. While exhibiting artist, Jeremy Deller's, work in English
Magic looks at folk traditions, you can create images and objects based
on your own family traditions. Every other weekend, you can also try Sculpt
the Sky.
1pm-4pm. Price: Children £3.50; adults, under 3s, and families living
in the CT9 postcode go free.
Don't miss this insight into the making of popular biopic, Mr Turner, at the
gallery this autumn. Not only will artist Tim Wright be revealing how he
taught Timothy Spall to paint for the film, but Charlie Cobb, who produced
the Turner paintings for the film, will also be on hand to discuss working
on the making of Mr Turner, followed by a Q&A session.

This autumn, Kent Adult Education is running a series of art courses for
visitors to discover and develop their inner artist. Become an expert at
drawing and painting with guidance from artist, Judith Bing, at this fiveweek course. The course runs from 5th November to 3rd December. Please

A presentation and performance by the artist group, Janez Jansa, Janez
Jansa and Janez Jansa, whose three members changed their names to
that of the Slovenian prime minister; a process that was documented in
controversial 2012 documentary, My Name is Janez Jansa.

Organised in collaboration with UCA Canterbury as part of the
exhibition, Despite Efficiency: Labour, at Herbert Read Gallery. Catch it from

Art on Screen: Continental Drift // 17 Dec
Encounter art, music and performance in new and brilliant ways on the first
Friday of every month at the following Margate-based artistic hubs: Crate,
LIMBO, Marine Studios, Resort Studios, Tom Thumb Theatre, and Turner
Contemporary. In celebration of Friday Night Live, see English Magic and
experience Kent’s folk music at its best. Get your dancing shoes on for a
full-blown cèilidh at the gallery.
6pm-9pm. Price: Free admission.
Watch Turner Contemporary's series of films made by artists. This group
screening explores the roles of location, time and memory in our
understanding, and relationships to urban and rural space. With reference
to sociality and nationality, artists reveal a variety of perspectives on territory,
landscape and national borders, while others capture the universal languages
of geological and manmade terrains.

Cliver Wilmer discusses William Morris and John Ruskin
// 27 Nov
Author and poet, Clive Wilmer, explores the work of William Morris and
John Ruskin and their influence on Victorian society. Clive Wilmer is the
author of seven books of poetry, including New and Collected Poems
(Carcanet, 2012). He also teaches English at Cambridge, where he is an
Emeritus Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, and lectures on Victorian poetry.
In addition, he has written extensively on John Ruskin and William Morris,
and he is the editor of the Penguin editions of Ruskin’s Unto This Last and
Other Writings and Morris’s News from Nowhere and Other Writings. Since
2009, he has been Master of the Guild of St. George, the charity founded
by Ruskin in 1878.
