Walpole Bay
HOTEL & MUSEUM
Unlock the memories and wonders of a
bygone era at the Walpole Bay Hotel and
Museum. As you climb our marble steps, laid
by the Budge Family in 1914 you will cross
our floral veranda lovingly tended by your
hosts and proprietors, The Bishop Family.
You are entering into an Edwardian treasure
trove with the flare and flamboyance of days
gone past with the comfort of modern
amenities. Bed pans and corsets are optional
upon request but the luxury and the care of
our staff will have you coming back for more.
Our regular repertoire encompasses
something for all tastes:
Cream Teas: Served on our Royal Albert,
gold leaf vintage china and original Mappin
and Webb silverware. Our Homemade
scones, fresh cream and jam are almost too
good to be true.
Napery: A collection of the memories of our
guests’ visits to Walpole, it is also a
collective noun for a collection of linen.
From accomplished artists to fond childhood
memories our Napery has a place for
everyone’s memories to stay forever.
Museum: Starting as the history of Walpole,
our museum quickly grew into a chronicling
of the bygone eras and memories of those
who have lived it. From the far flung oddities
of our hornets’ nest and milk bottle collection
to the humble family crib that has cradled
generations. The centrepiece of our museum
is our 1927 Otis Trellis Gated Lift. Smooth
and silent as it whisks you to every level of
wonder.
Jazz Suppers: Our Nick Capocci joins up
with Harry Cook and others to bring you a
feast for your senses while our chef feeds
your tastes. Every third Thursday of each
month from 7pm, music begins at 8pm.
Rogues Gallery: Over the years many
famous and infamous people have visited
and fell in love with the Walpole. We house a
gallery of those lovable rogues and their
entourages.
Music Hall: Throughout the summer your
worthy chairman, Gordon Clarkson invites
you to take a trip back in time to sample a
unique cornucopia or coruscating
conviviality. Alternating between two
programmes each Friday at 2:30pm Matinee
and 8pm evening show. Dinner and
refreshments available.
Sunday Lunch: The best end to the week is
always a Walpole Special Sunday Lunch. 5
course meal set to the tranquil tones of our
antique Marshall and Rose Pianola, aptly
tinkled by our resident Concert Pianist Nick
Capocci.
11th October
Walpole Wondrous
Centennial Celebration
Jerome Hillion Hair and Makeup: In his
custom built Bijou salon, Jerome offers his
flair and expertise as an award winning
British hairdresser to residents and
non-residents alike.
Walpole Bay Hotel was built in the summer
of 1914, to celebrate our 100th year we are
throwing the biggest party the Walpole and
Margate has seen. 11th October is the diary
date to clear and save.
Our current playbill includes:
Starting off the day with a designer fashion
show. We then take an Edwardian twist and
work out “who done it” with a classic 1920’s
Murder mystery Dinner Party. Closing the
day with a dance extravaganza in our 1927
Ballroom with its Sprung Maple dance floor
until dawn.
Murder Mystery Nights: Whilst being wined
and dined at the pleasure of your hosts,
murder is afoot. Can you and your fellow
sleuths discover the killer or killers before it
is too late.
