Bath
THE GOLDEN CITY
by Emma Bates
Beautiful Bath has been a World Heritage Site since 1987. Welcoming visitors for over 2,000
years, Bath is recognised as a place of outstanding universal value for its architecture, town
planning, landscape, archaeological remains and its role as a setting for social history. It’s
home to some of the most impressive architectural sights in the world such as the Royal
Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge.
Three hot springs can be found beneath the city:
the King’s Spring, supplying the Roman Baths;
and the Hetling and Cross Springs, which can
be bathed in at Thermae Bath Spa. No trip to
Bath would be complete without visiting the
Roman Baths Museum. Gain fascinating insight
into the original baths and the great Roman
temple of Sulis Minerva after which the Romans
named the settlement.

The oldest house in the city is home to the famous
Sally Lunn bun which is still made to the original
secret recipe; part bun, part bread, part cake
and not to be confused with the London Bath
Bun.
A shopper’s paradise since Georgian times, Bath
has a reputation for high fashion. Today, visitors
can experience independent and more wellknown stores in its compact city centre.

Make the most of the city by joining one of the
many guided walks. Choose from following in
Jane Austen’s footsteps to a Sulis guide to a
ghost tour. Perhaps an open-top bus or a balloon
flight for a unique view of the city and surrounding
countryside is more your style!
Bath is a foodie heaven, with plenty of
independent restaurants and delis, a local farmer’
s
market (the first ever in the UK) and a strong
emphasis on locally sourced, homegrown food.
The city features some excellent restaurants with
something on offer to suit all tastes.
In a city that can boast intimate size, a laid-back
atmosphere and countryside right on the
doorstep, Bath is the perfect destination.
