fish, plus a host of shellfish and salad options.
In addition, a show cooking station offered
delights such as lamb cutlets with fondant
potatoes, cooked in front of intrigued diners at
the far end of the buffet.
La Piazetta is the Italian themed option – a
welcoming and cosy dining experience, whereby
the Canaries meet Italy. Here, guests can indulge
in a great selection of stone-baked pizzas, freshly
cooked pasta and a host of antipasti dishes that
tantalise the taste buds.
Finally, La Hacienda is the Mexican buffet and
makes for a vibrant dining choice, with the bonus
of an outside terrace for al fresco dining. Food
included steaks and spit-roasted chicken, as
well as Mexican specialities including fajitas,
burritos, nachos and chilli.
But, let’s not stop at the generous, tasty, themed
starters and main courses; the dessert section
in each of the buffet restaurants was truly
impressive. Individual pastries, cakes and sweet
treats were surrounded by large flans, tarts and
cheesecakes, made even more delicious by the
use of fresh local fruits and flavours. We left each
evening well sated and intrigued by the next
night’s offerings.
And then of course there are the à la carte
restaurants: first up, the award-winning Isla de
Lobos, a seafront exclusive setting that offers
delicate cuisine, prepared under its ‘slow food’
philosophy of nurturing and preserving each
ingredient. Secondly, Kampai, the popular
Japanese Teppanyaki dining experience, boasted
traditional chefs conjuring up classic Asian dishes
including seafood, chicken teriyaki, sushi and
rice. Meanwhile, Don Giovani offers authentic
Italian cuisine, prepared using traditional methods,
and last but by no means least, the Bodega +
Tapas Restaurant offers Canarian tapas delights
and superb Spanish wines.
Having settled into our carefree days by the pool
and satisfied from our daily pudding fest, it was
time to sample the other main draw of the resort
– the onsite Thalasso and Spa Centre, which
offers a range of massages, treatments and
facilities. I happily indulged in a relaxing, tailored
massage, whilst my guest embarked on a popular
‘circuit’ session, which encompassed the 34degree heated pool with water jets and Jacuzzi,
sauna and steam room. The experience left us
both energised and relaxed.

Aside from this peaceful haven, throughout the
day and evening, the resort also offers a range
of activities and entertainment. From the popular
water aerobics in the pool, to the children’s early
evening entertainment, there is usually something
for everyone.
Another great thing about this resort is its location.
Take a short stroll along the beachfront
promenade and you will find a pretty marina with
harbourside restaurants and shops, while the
other direction will lead you to the heart of Playa
Blanca, complete with its tourist shops and bars.
Furthermore, just a short drive away is the bigger
and bustling capital and larger resorts such as
Puerto Del Carmen.
Yet at Princesa Yaiza, you don't even need to
venture offsite, as everything you need for a
relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable break is
literally on hand at this impressive luxury resort
complex.
