FURLEY PAGE CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF FUNDRAISING Furley Page team Staff at leading Kent law firm Furley Page raised more than £3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society in 2013. The firm organised a number of activities and events throughout the year, including quiz nights, ‘dress down’ days, hamper raffles, ploughman’s lunches, a Pimms evening and a mince pie event. In the summer, partners Andrew Gough and Harvey Barrett took the plunge in the Rotary Club of Herne Bay’s ‘Big Jump’ abseil to raise money for the society. Staff also auctioned two copies of The Marlowe Theatre’s Midnight Tango programmes, signed by the show’s stars, Strictly Come Dancing favourites Vincent Simone and Flavia Capace; and two tickets for the Aviva Premiership Rugby final, which was held at Twickenham in May. Furley Page senior partner Peter Hawkes said: “The staff, led by our social committee, have worked tremendously hard to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity which provides vital support to people living with dementia, their carers and their families. “Just £5 raised can pay for someone to attend a half-hour session at a monthly Dementia Café, while £120 could pay to run the society's 24/7 online community, Talking Point, for a day.” The Alzheimer’s Society is one of several charities that Furley Page has raised money for in 2013, as part of its ongoing community support programme. Partner Andrew Gough joined the Bishop of Dover and other hardy fundraisers in a mass sleep-out in the precincts of Canterbury Cathedral in September, raising money for homeless charities Porchlight and Catching Lives. In October, Furley Page also put together a team of more than 20 to take part in the Pilgrims Hospices’ Light Up the City event, joining nearly 850 others on a night-time 3k walk and 5k run. The firm was the event’s main sponsor for the second successive year. Furley Page’s annual charity networking event, organised by the firm’s family law team, also raised money for Save the Children. As well as supporting charities, Furley Page continues to sponsor the University of Kent’s Lunchtime Concert Series – something the firm has done for more than a decade. The concerts give the whole community the opportunity to enjoy first-class entertainment from performers of the highest calibre. www.furleypage.co.uk www.alzheimers.org.uk 143
