your in-tray, to-do list, action plan or any electrical
equipment. The right side of your desk breeds
creativity so keep any planning or development
work here, as well as any family photographs or
?owers if you favour them.
Work area
Not only do chairs affect our posture and comfort,
they also bring added stability. A high back chair
will support you energetically and is especially
important if your only seated option is facing
a wall.
Stability and vision are key considerations for
your work area. Let’s look at stability ?rst. Ideally,
place your desk so that you sit with your back
to a wall looking out into the room. This puts you
in a command position, which means that you
are in control. If this isn’t possible and you have
to place your desk against a wall, sit where neither
doors nor windows are directed straight at your
back. Energy, known as Chi, will ?ow into the
room through the doors and windows and affect
you like a cool breeze. You won’t be comfortable
and may ?nd that you are constantly looking
behind you.
Your desk shouldn’t rock or wobble, drawers
should move smoothly on their runners, and there
should be plenty of space for everything you
need to work with. Keep anything that requires

Now let’s talk about vision. Everything you see
from your work area is going to affect you
energetically. So it’s important that what you see
re?ects your vision and your objectives are visible
to you. This may be a white board with your
action plans and goals, a vision board,
testimonials, awards or examples of your products
or services.
Everything in your home of?ce needs to be
aspirational, uplifting or with intent to inspire you.
There should be reminders of what you’ve
achieved, where you’re going, why you are doing
it and who you are doing it for.
Placement
Placement is always considered in Feng Shui
because the character of Chi changes dependent
on its direction. This means that you can energise
certain areas of your home of?ce according to
your objectives. Here are a few suggestions:
• Place phones and faxes in either the west or
northwest to improve communications.
• An aquarium, indoor fountain or images of water
in the north will support your career.
• A healthy green leafy plant in the southeast will
encourage opportunities.
• Place testimonials or awards in the south as
this governs your reputation.
• If you need to focus on study and research,
use the northeast.
Colours
It’s tempting to stick with neutral tones when
decorating as these can have a grounding effect
on the energy of your home of?ce. However, if
it becomes too grounded this will encourage
procrastination and hold you back. In Feng Shui,
colours are used to bring harmony and balance
to a room or to encourage a certain type of Chi.
You can use colours in your wall coverings, ?oor
coverings, furnishings or artwork.
• Greens are motivational and creative. They
suit any kind of study, research, artistic or design
work.
• Blues encourage contemplation and calm. This
is ideal for writing, blue sky thinking,
brainstorming or conceptual work.
• Reds bring lots of energy and speed things up.
