SPRING GROVE SCHOOL:
WE CAN ALL DO BETTER IF WE TRY
The Eco Committee at Spring Grove School recently celebrated the re-awarding of the Eco-Schools Green Flag for 2026-7. The award reflects the school’ s steadfast dedication to improving sustainability and environmental learning, and as part of their eco journey during the autumn term at Spring Grove, the children have been practising a song called‘ We Can All Do Better If We Try’.
This special song is part of the Sing2Save national initiative, led by composer Nick Drewe. The idea is to raise general awareness of the need to look after our world and specifically to raise money for the charity Butterfly Conservation. Sadly, like many other animals, butterfly species are declining in numbers and some are disappearing completely from our countryside.
Nick Drewe came into Spring Grove to talk to the children about his song and his conservation work, and to listen to the performance. By singing it, the Spring Grove pupils have joined with schools from Cornwall to Orkney. The song was also a gift for Sir David Attenborough to mark his 100th birthday.
During the term, the butterfly theme has extended into many other areas of learning across the school with many colourful butterfly artwork and displays. The school Eco Committee has also been investigating how to make the school grounds more friendly for butterflies and moths.
