STOUR MUSIC FESTIVAL

OF EARLY MUSIC IN EAST KENT

In that little corner of heaven that is an East Kentish churchyard, the Stour Music Festival continues to flourish in its 64th year. Held over two weekends in late June each year( taking place this year between 19-28 June), concerts take place in the medieval church of Boughton Aluph, overlooking the Stour Valley on the Pilgrims’ Way route to Canterbury.

Having established a reputation for a very high quality of music performed by artists from all over the world, and for the welcome of a warm festival atmosphere, highlights of this year’ s festival include I Fagiolini’ s oneto-a-part take on Monteverdi’ s 1610 Vespers and Handel’ s‘ Music for Royal Occasions’, bringing together northern visitors Manchester Baroque and The 24( University of York) with Kent choir, Lees Court Music. soprano Ruby Hughes. Also, Italian madrigals from Fieri Consort and‘ Softest Thunder’ from lutenist Toby Carr.
Brean Hammond’ s play Master Byrd is an innovation, with live music from The Renaissance Singers, while Sarah Latto’ s Echo Ensemble give an early and contemporary recital before Nicholas Mulroy’ s Cubaroque liven things up in the tent with‘ Havana Nights’.
Audience members can book supper in the Festival Marquee, where drinks, coffee and teas are also served. All details on booking can be found on the website.
