WELCOME

If there is one thing guaranteed to make iKHQ happy( aside from getting another fabulous issue to print for your reading pleasure …) it’ s food! Whether it’ s a dirty burger, a cheeky chocolate cookie or a full on Michelin-starred taster menu, if there is food on offer, the chances are one of us won’ t be far behind. So it stands to reason that our annual food special issue is a perennial favourite, as well as being an extra excuse to eat our way around Kent!

As spring firmly arrives, the Garden of England bursts into its most bountiful season, so there really is no better time to celebrate the incredible produce, passionate people and unforgettable dining establishments that make our county such a foodie haven. This issue is a true feast- packed from cover to cover with flavour, fabulous dishes and a dash of indulgence.
We start, of course, with the joy of getting out and about, rounding up Kent’ s top festivals- where food, drink, music and good times collide in the very best way. To celebrate festival season in iK style, we have not one, not two, but three amazing competitions where you can win tickets to some of Kent’ s best: The Kent County Show, the Wine Garden of England’ s Summer Celebration and Tunbridge Wells’ newbie, Sound Bites.
For those that prefer a day out with a side order of adventurous intrigue, Castles, Caves and Curiosities offers a journey through some of Kent’ s most fascinating spots, with plenty of refuel spots and places to recharge along the way. While our insideGUIDE to Deal highlights everything from the coastal town’ s hidden museum gems to the best places to dine.
Perhaps the highlight of this issue, however, is who and what really puts Kent on the food map, which we are delighted to showcase in a bespoke illustration courtesy of incredibly talented Kentish artist Debbie Lee of Debbie Draws Maps. Read on to delve into Kent’ s food hotspots and iconic produce, as well as the county’ s must-visit foodie destinations in Taste Trails, your ultimate guide to eating your way across Margate, Folkestone, Rochester, Faversham and Sevenoaks. You can also find our pick of Kent’ s best Family Foodie spots, because great food should be enjoyed by everyone.
We also go in The Kitchen With our cover star Pomus, diving into the passion, creativity and flavours behind one of Kent’ s most exciting culinary offerings. While our recipes this month all come from Kent chef’ s kitchens, too!
If that’ s not quite enough to whet your appetite, we’ ve also taken a little detour with a whistlestop tour of Michelin Milan, embraced growing superfood tea trend in March of the Matcha, and we’ ve also shared our top tips for dining alfresco as we step into sunnier months ahead.
So, whether you’ re planning your next foodie adventure, are trying something new in the kitchen, or are simply dreaming about your next great meal( or cookie), we’ re with you every bite of the way.
Here’ s to a month of flavour, feasting and fabulous festivals ahead.
Happy eating, Kent!
Samantha
