INSPIRING CREATIVITY AT DULWICH CRANBROOK
AT DULWICH CRANBROOK, CREATIVITY IS WOVEN INTO THE FABRIC OF SCHOOL LIFE. FROM EARLY YEARS TO GCSE, PUPILS EXPLORE, CREATE AND PERFORM ACROSS A VIBRANT SPECTRUM OF ARTS. OUR THRIVING CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMME GIVES EVERY PUPIL- FROM NURSERY UPWARDS- THE CHANCE TO DISCOVER THEIR PASSIONS, HONE THEIR SKILLS AND CELEBRATE THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS.
Art that inspires In our specialist art studios, pupils explore techniques from drawing and painting to sculpture, ceramics, photography, animation and textiles. Under the guidance of head of art, Kate Westcott, schemes of work challenge and inspire, while scholarships to leading schools and success in competitions such as the prestigious IAPS iArt reflect the quality of learning. For pupils in Years 7 to 9 keen to go further, the Advanced Art Club offers deeper study and preparation for GCSE.
Drama on and beyond the stage Drama is another cornerstone of our arts offering. Led by head of drama and dance, Hannah Carter, pupils develop performance skills alongside confidence, collaboration and creativity. They work across a range of styles, often taking productions in bold new directions. LAMDA exams are embedded in the curriculum for Years 5 to 8, with optional entry for older pupils, and theatre trips and workshops, including visits to Macbeth at Shakespeare’ s Globe and Hamilton in the West End, broaden horizons.
A school that sings Music is ever-present, from Rock School jam sessions to folk tunes at‘ Jigs and Reels’. Choirs, orchestras, jazz bands, brass and flute ensembles all thrive, with 60 % of pupils learning an instrument from Year 2 upwards. Annual highlights include the Young Voices concert at the O2 for Year 4, termly informal performances and largescale summer and winter concerts. The whole school comes together for the annual‘ Big Sing’- staff included.
Designing for the future In design & technology( DT), projects grow in ambition from jewellery-making to complex wood mechanisms. A team of pupils is even designing and building a fully electric car to compete in the national Greenpower Challenge.
From fine art, textiles, music and drama to dance and DT- all offered at GCSE- Dulwich Cranbrook provides a rich environment where creativity flourishes, talent is nurtured and pupils are equipped to excel both now and in the years ahead.
