THE LEVEL ARADO
beyond, reminding us we were firmly in London, even if the room itself felt cocooned and calm.
Cocktails were what beckoned us downstairs to‘ 35, the hotel’ s signature bar and lounge, where the atmosphere hums from early evening onwards. Helmed by the effervescent Kevin, who knows a thing or two about good cocktails, we were soon happily working our way through Espresso Martinis and bartender recommendations including a clever signature‘ She’ s A Sweet One’ that combined notes of vanilla with melon, pear and lime.
Dinner followed at Arado, the hotel’ s Mediterranean restaurant, where the open pass kitchen adds both theatre and reassurance. The team were attentive without intrusion, guiding us through a menu that celebrates bold Spanish flavours.
We began with confit globe artichoke paired with Ibérico ham, the artichoke meltingly tender, its sweetness offset by the savoury depth of the ham. Grilled vegetables with romesco followed, smoky and vibrant, the nutty richness of the sauce lifting each bite.
For mains, the slow-cooked beef cheek was a standout, having spent 13 hours reaching a point of perfect tenderness. It fell apart at the fork, rich without heaviness, partnered with truffle mash that added earthy depth and tenderstem broccoli for balance. While the harissa lamb offered gently spiced contrast served with creamy hummus, as bursts of sweetness from cherry tomatoes, cooling yoghurt and warm pitta completed the dish.
Dessert was indulgent, of course, yet restrained. A chocolate fondant delivered that essential molten centre, while the La
Viña Basque cheesecake came beautifully caramelised, dense yet light, finished with fresh berries that cut through its richness- the perfect end to our evening.
What makes Meliá White House particularly compelling is how seamlessly it marries its Spanish roots with a London sensibility. The warmth of the service, the emphasis on shared food and social spaces, and the relaxed confidence throughout give it a distinct personality. Add in an exceptional location and the elevated experience of The Level, and it becomes a hotel that feels as suited to a celebratory city break as it does to a refined business stay. It’ s London with a Spanish accent, and all the better for it.
