FOLKESTONE HARBOUR FESTIVE MARKET
MISSION CHRISTMAS
“ For me, Christmas is all about annual traditions- whether that’ s optimistically squeezing a freshly felled Christmas tree from Saltwood Orchard into the back of my small car or the last-minute shopping dash. At Folkestone Harbour, we’ re welcoming visitors to our fifth Festive Market this year and I really believe that exploring our Christmassy oasis of little shops and snow blizzards is becoming a must-do on Kent’ s Christmas calendar of events. This will be our fifth time showing The Muppets Christmas Carol on the big screen on Christmas Eve, our eighth time hosting a huge carol service across the platforms of our award-winning Harbour Station, and the third time inviting children to experience the magic of our maritimethemed grotto!”

“ Christmas in Whitstable is beautiful. The quaint streets with their sea of independent shops are brilliant, making finding the perfect gift very easy. Cheese at Christmas is a must and there are two very special places to get all of your Kentish cheeses from: Cheesemakers of Canterbury have amazing cheese, as does Kingcott Dairy- both have great selections and more awards than you can shake an ice cream scoop at. As Mrs Bear is Icelandic, we celebrate Christmas the Scandi way- on the evening of 24 December. We always have roast duck, caramelised potatoes( sound awful but are insanely good), Waldorf salad and red cabbage. I have managed to sneak the red cabbage in over the decades and now it’ s welcome at the party. Between Christmas and new year, walks up and down the Whitstable coast are a must. Cold and wet, yes, but incredibly beautiful.”

“ As a family, we love Christmas days out together, from browsing Canterbury’ s Christmas Market for gifts to wandering the magical Christmas Lights at Leeds Castle. This year, we’ re also taking our son Elliott to watch Sleeping Beauty at The Malthouse Theatre, which we know he’ ll love. But the real highlight has to be Mission Christmas at The Historic Dockyard Chatham( I might be slightly biased). Elliott absolutely loves it and it’ s a great excuse to tuck into my favourite Kentish festive treat, the dockyard’ s delicious‘ Yorky Pud Wrap’, which is basically Christmas dinner wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding!”
