FOSBERY STUDIO

Set in the heart of Folkestone’ s creative coastal community and founded by the talented Daniel Fosbery, Fosbery Studio cleverly blends cutting-edge design technology with time-honoured craftsmanship. Every piece is made-to-order in their workshop, ensuring individuality and timeless quality for those who appreciate thoughtful design.

Proudly sourcing 90 % of materials from within the UK, with over 80 % coming from suppliers located within 200 miles of their Folkestone studio, Fosbery are deeply committed to supporting the British industry and reducing their environmental footprint. Today, the studio is proud to be stocked in some of the world’ s leading interior stores, often sending work to the United States, Netherlands and Europe, as well as across Kent.
Daniel, tell us more about your professional decorative lighting journey. My journey began unexpectedly after graduating in furniture design. I won a competition to create a souvenir for the Transport for London Museum, which led to handmaking 60 lights in my London flat while working full time. That project opened doors to a role at a prestigious lighting firm, where I managed bespoke commissions and discovered my passion for creating tailored lighting for luxury interiors.
Three years later, I launched Copper & Silk, a lampshade factory. Then in 2017, I moved to Folkestone to establish Fosbery Studio and for the past eight years I’ ve worked with a small, talented team to design and craft every piece in-house.
How would you describe Fosbery’ s design style? Our style fuses sculptural elegance with engineered precision. We’ re inspired by industrial heritage, natural forms and modernist principles- blending raw materials like brass, fabric and glass with refined finishes. The result is tactile, timeless lighting that quietly enhances its surroundings.
When approaching a commissioned project, what are the first steps in your design process? We begin by reviewing the client’ s project- photos, floor plans and any specific requirements like size or budget. From there, we sketch concepts and develop samples, drawings and 3D renders to ensure clarity and confidence before production begins.
How have you seen lighting trends evolve throughout your career? Any predictions for 2026’ s biggest trend? Lighting has changed dramatically. When I started my career, LEDs were poor quality, nickel was the dominant metal finish and chocolate brown was in every interior. Today, clients favour lighter, neutral tones with vibrant accents and finishes like bronze and antique brass. I suspect silver metals are poised for a comeback, along with rich tones like brown and burgundy.
Personally, we’ re inspired by antique markets, global travels and museums showcasing indigenous craft. Our lights are made-toorder, allowing clients to choose finishes that suit their space and style whatever the current trend.
You are fiercely committed to responsible designing. How do you achieve and maintain sustainable practices within your work? Sustainability is central to everything we do. We use recyclable metals, FSCcertified timbers and design for longevity and repairability. Working with local artisans reduces transport emissions and we minimise waste by repurposing scrap
