ANIMAL ART TRAIL RAISES THOUSANDS FOR DEMELZA
A celebration event and auction of sculptures has raised more than £ 75,000 for children’ s charity Demelza.
Demelza held its‘ Trail with a Tale’ in Tunbridge Wells throughout the summer- a free event in partnership with Wild in Art, which saw 10 large sculptures, designed and decorated by local artists, dotted around the town for people to find and enjoy. There were also 28 smaller animal sculptures decorated by local school children displayed in shops and businesses around the town.
The family-friendly trail raised money and awareness of the services Demelza provides to children with serious or life-limiting conditions across Kent, East Sussex and South East London. All of the sculptures were sold at auction with Brassica, a large snail designed and painted by Bearstedbased artist Helen Alexander-Brinstow, going for the highest price at £ 7,000. In total, Trail with a Tale, along with the celebrations and auction event, raised more than £ 75,000 for Demelza.
“ The trail was something new for us and we are absolutely delighted with how it was received by local residents, businesses and visitors,” said deputy CEO, Hayley Richardson.“ We’ re hugely grateful to everyone that has supported the trail.
