HOW TO...

STORE YOUR CHRISTMAS DECOR

ONCE THE FESTIVITIES ARE OVER AND THE TREE HAS BEEN TAKEN DOWN, THOUGHTFUL STORAGE WILL ENSURE THAT YOUR CHRISTMAS DECOR REMAINS IN PERFECT CONDITION FOR YEARS TO COME. A LITTLE EXTRA CARE NOW WILL SAVE TIME, MONEY AND FRUSTRATION WHEN THE FESTIVE SEASON ROLLS AROUND AGAIN. SO, WHETHER YOU’ RE A‘ WRAP THE TREE, BAUBLES AND ALL IN CLING FILM’,‘ POP £ 50 IN THE STORAGE BOX FOR A DECORATING TAKEAWAY TREAT NEXT YEAR’ OR A‘ THROW IT ALL IN A BOX AND FORGET ABOUT IT’ DE-DECORATOR, HERE’ S OUR TOP TIPS FOR STORING YOUR DECOR BEAUTIFULLY AND EFFICIENTLY, WHICH SHOULD MAKE LIFE A LITTLE EASIER WHEN THE SEASON FAST ROLLS AROUND AGAIN.
1. SORT BEFORE YOU STORE
Before packing anything away, take time to declutter. Sort through baubles, lights and ornaments, and set aside any that are broken or no longer fit your style. Donate gently used pieces and recycle what you can. This keeps your collection fresh and organised, and reduces clutter.
2. INVEST IN CLEAR, LABELLED CONTAINERS
Sturdy transparent boxes make it easy to see contents at a glance. Label each container by category- baubles, lights, wreaths- so you’ ll know exactly where everything is next December. Stackable containers maximise space in lofts, cupboards or under-stair storage.

3. PROTECT FRAGILE ORNAMENTS
Wrap delicate baubles, glass and candles in tissue paper, bubble wrap or handy leftover wrapping paper. Use dividers in boxes to prevent items knocking together. Egg cartons are perfect for smaller ornaments, while wine boxes are great for larger items. Invest in dedicated bauble boxes to truly organise and store safely.
4. KEEP LIGHTS TANGLE FREE
Fairy lights are notorious for becoming a knotted mess. If you no longer have their original storage boxes, instead wind them around a piece of cardboard, a purposemade reel or even a coat hanger will suffice! Store each set in its own bag or box and label accordingly. If you have multiple lights, it’ s helpful to note their hue e. g. warm, white, blue, coloured- and also note your preferred location to aid their next install.
