NEW COFFEE RECYCLING SCHEME LAUNCHED AT SHEPHERD NEAME
Independent family brewer and pub Shepherd Neame has launched a new coffee grounds recycling scheme to reduce waste- and offer customers a boost for their gardens.
The Faversham-based brewer teamed up with John Street Beverage to launch its exclusive Creekside Coffee last year- an Arabica coffee brand packaged in recyclable bags when delivered to pubs.
Instead of disposing of the used coffee grounds as food waste, Shepherd Neame team members will now collect and repackage them in the empty bags, sealed and ready for customers to take home, free of charge. Due to the natural benefit coffee can have, customers are encouraged to sprinkle the grounds around plants, or mix into compost to enrich the soil’ s nutrient content.
The recycling scheme is the latest initiative in Shepherd Neame’ s People, Pubs and Planet sustainability strategy, which includes a commitment to ensure zero waste to landfill.
TOP CHEFS REUNITED FOR EXCLUSIVE DINNER IN SEVENOAKS
On 6 November, Number Eight Sevenoaks will host an exclusive dining experience reuniting Tom Anglesea and Stuart Gillies in the kitchen after 20 years. Guests will enjoy a four-course menu that celebrates the local produce of Kent, brought to life through the creativity and pedigree of two world-wide chefs.
Tom’ s journey began with a stage of Gordon Ramsay’ s Boxwood Café, working under Stuart Gillies who later helped him make the leap to New York. What was first intended to be a role at Soho House instead led Tom to join the team at Per Se, where he honed his craft at one of the world’ s most acclaimed restaurants.
Stuart Gillies, owner of Number Eight, has spent over 30 years in some of the world’ s most prestigious kitchens including Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, Sweden, New York and London. Today, Stuart’ s focus is closer to home with Bank House in Chislehurst and Number Eight in Sevenoaks.
