were equally impressive, from made-toorder omelettes to fresh breads and justbaked pastries.
But it was the resorts à la carte and themed beachside dining that elevated the experience. Dining al fresco as the sun sank into the sea, we sampled Italian night with wood-fired pizzas, fresh lasagnes, gnocchi and focaccia one night, followed by the acclaimed BBQ night the next which boasted flame-seared ribs, burgers, souvlaki and halloumi with yet more bread, of course. Pairing these with wines from local vineyards brought a sense of place to every meal.
Hidden in the cool lower levels of the resort is the spa- a sanctuary of calm where guests are treated to a complimentary 45-minute treatment per week of their stay as well as having access to the indoor pool and sauna. Here, I indulged in a fullbody rejuvenating massage, where my therapist Katerina worked with a blend of oils infused with local herbs to ease away airport and impending back-to-school tensions- just bliss.
What really makes Cavo Spada stand out is its balance. It’ s undeniably luxurious, yet it never feels stiff or overly formal. Families relax beside honeymooners; groups of friends linger over long lunches; couples disappear for moonlit walks along the shore. There’ s space for everyone and a generosity of spirit that feels distinctly Cretan.
