This September, the little ones are in for a treat as The Gruffalo will be making special appearances at Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, with pre-booked train tickets guaranteeing a seat on a VIP departure from Hythe to New Romney station to see author Julia Donaldson’ s famous picture book character. Tickets will include a reserved seat from Hythe to New Romney and a return. Children’ s outdoor play areas will be open at New Romney and The Heywood Buffet will be fully stocked with takeaway drinks and snacks including the railway’ s popular children’ s lunchboxes.

To mark the start of a new season, professional botanical artist Leigh Ann Gale will be holding an inspiring botanical illustration workshop for all abilities to learn how to draw and illustrate a unique piece of art. Using a selection of autumnal foliage, fruits and seed pods from the surrounding gardens, the workshop will begin with a step-by-step guide to produce accurate initial drawings. These will then be transferred to specialist watercolour paper before watercolours and / or pencils bring the illustration to life. Tickets also include a delicious afternoon tea.
