ELTHAM COLLEGE: A DECADE OF TRANSFORMATION

At the heart of a green and leafy oasis in South East London – readily accessible from across Kent – you will find one of the capital’ s most exciting independent schools: Eltham College.

Founded in 1842, Eltham is a day school with a proud history. Under headmaster Guy Sanderson, the last decade has been particularly transformative.
Five years ago, the school( formerly boysonly outside the Sixth Form) became co-educational, and since September 2024 there have been both boys and girls in every year group, from ages seven to 18.
Eltham College has also risen dramatically up all rankings thanks to outstanding academic results, which continue to climb, and in recognition of which the school received the coveted Sunday Times‘ London Independent School of the Year 2024 award.
With 2025’ s exam performance awaited at the time of writing, last year’ s saw over two-thirds of A Levels graded A */ A and an equally impressive picture at GCSE, where two-thirds of grades were 8 / 9, equivalent to A * under the previous system. To see how this year’ s students have fared, please take a look at the Eltham College website.
But this happy, all-through, busy family school is about so much more. Each child is known and cared for as an individual; no-one is ever lost in the crowd. Though Eltham welcomes children of all faiths and none, it was founded on Christian principles, and the values of love, kindness, integrity, humility and compassion underpin the school’ s ethos and tremendous sense of community.
Also core to the Eltham College difference is the encouragement and support given to every student, from Year 3 to 13, to challenge themselves and try the new in the school’ s incredibly rich co-curricular programme and vast array of clubs.
Sports provision is exceptional and makes full use of Eltham’ s 70 acres. Alongside core sports: hockey, cricket, rugby and netball, the school is strong in aquatics( swimming and water polo), athletics, fencing, skiing and tennis, with some 20 other sports on offer.
A growing number of students compete at national, regional and county level.
The arts are equally impressive. Opportunities abound for musicians of all levels and styles. Most students learn at least one instrument and there are some 55 ensembles to join( including winners of major international prizes). Over 70 musical events each year range from Jazz Night in the school theatre to a flagship choral and orchestral concert at Blackheath Halls. Art is outstanding and so too is drama- students regularly attain places at the UK’ s top drama schools.
Entry to Eltham is to the Junior School at 7 or 8 +( offering seamless transition to the Senior School in Year 7), and to the College at 11 + and 16 +. Transport is available across London and North Kent.
Registration is now open for September 2026 places. To find out more, join our only Whole School Open Day of the year on Saturday September 13. Book now at eltham-college. org. uk, or contact admissions @ eltham-college. org. uk. We look forward to meeting you.
