Summer in Kent is simply magical, and this month we’ re capturing it all in the ultimate Kentish summer scrapbook, bursting with memory-making adventures, delicious discoveries and more than a few brilliant surprises along the way.
August is all about seizing the summer moment and we’ ve packed this issue with ideas for making the most of the glorious school holidays. From the best days out with the family, where you’ ll find everything from animal encounters to adventure parks- and the chance to win some fabulous family attraction tickets on p44- to discovering hidden corners of our county that are perfect for picnics, we’ ve got your summer plans sorted.
Fancy something a little different? We’ re delving into Towns with a Twist, where familiar places reveal unexpected gems, and we’ re also uncovering Kent’ s‘ Happy Glampers!’ top glamping spots for those who want a little luxury with their fresh air. Speaking of glamping, I’ m sharing all about my incredible stay under canvas at Giraffe Lodge at Port Lympne. Yes, there were giraffes right outside my tent, and no, I’ m still not over it.
Our adventures spill over the county border this month for a special insideGUIDE to Rye, before we dash back again to shine a light on the best Coastal Cottages and Seaside Escapes right here in Kent. And for those who believe summer and seafood go hand-in-hand, don’ t miss Fish Out of Water, where we showcase the top seafood restaurants ready to satisfy every crustacean craving.
We’ ve also lined up reviews of three fantastic staycation destinations taking you from Sussex to London and back to Kentish soil: the stylish George in Rye, the dazzling The Peninsula London, and our fabulous cover star, The Blue Pigeons in Worth, near Deal- a true gem of a spot that perfectly captures coastal chic and Kentish hospitality.
No summer issue would be complete without some great recipes to make with the kids, a round-up of must-see events to cram into your diary, and a gorgeous selection of eco-led and coastal-inspired interiors to bring a little seaside spirit into your home.
And finally, we couldn’ t wrap up August without mentioning our recent 15th anniversary celebrations. We’ ve popped some photos inside so you can share the joy. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us, sent us messages, and, most importantly, continues to support and champion insideKENT, including of course, our fabulous team. Fifteen years on, we’ re still bursting with gratitude and excitement for what’ s to come.
Here’ s to a summer of unforgettable moments, Kentish adventures and sunsoaked( fingers crossed!) fun!
Samantha
