RYAN JACOVIDES SET TO LAUNCH POMUS FOLKESTONE THIS SUMMER
Ryan Jacovides, founder of the award-winning restaurant and wine bar Pomus and its recently launched sister site Pom on The Pier in Margate has announced he will launch a second branch along the Kentish coast. Pomus Folkestone will take over the old Brewery Tap pub site on Tontine Street, serving as a restaurant and wine bar as well as offering a space for art exhibitions and events, for which the site has been known since the original pub closed in the late 1990s.
Open seven days a week, the menu will be overseen by talented local Kent chef Keiran Golding, who will work alongside Pomus Margate’ s head chef Aaron Costen on menu development for the Folkestone site. Offering Pomus signatures, sharing plates and Golding’ s own creations, the menu will focus on using local and Kent-sourced ingredients, with a daytime sandwich and deli counter being new for this site. Ahead of the launch, Jacovides commented:“ We are so excited to bring Pomus to Folkestone and be in the heart of the Creative Quarter in the town! We are bringing the same Pomus quality and warm welcome, but we’ ve got big plans for the Folkestone site with lots of local twists.”
ROOTS OPENS 10TH UK ALLOTMENT SITE IN DARTFORD TO SUPPORT DEMAND FOR URBAN GROWING SPACES
Last month, Roots Allotments opened its gates to the members of their 10th allotment site situated on the edge of Hawley village, a rural plot in the Metropolitan Green Belt. Once an under-utilised green space, the lot has now been transformed into a thriving community growing hub for local families and individuals. Set to open over 450 new growing plots, the launch represents a significant boost to local provision, more than doubling the number of allotments managed by the borough.
With a focus on supporting first-time growers, each patch-holder receives access to a communal tool shed, expert-led growing courses and organic seeds of carefully selected vegetables and herbs to get started straight away, as well as friendly on-site patch managers to answer questions and guide them through each season.
“ What excites me most is helping people discover that growing your own isn’ t just about the incredible food you end up with – though that’ s definitely a bonus,” said patch manager, Josh.“ It’ s also about reconnecting with nature in a way that feels authentic and grounding. I can’ t wait to see what this community creates together.” www. insidekent. co. uk • 115
