Leading Kent law firm Whitehead Monckton is celebrating raising £ 6,544.17 in its first year of partnership with Alzheimer’ s Research UK and has committed to a second year of support.
The firm selected Alzheimer’ s Research UK as its charity of the year for 2024 / 25, with the significant sum raised through a variety of staff-led activities, supporting the charity’ s mission to revolutionise the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of dementia.
With over 25,000 people across Kent and Medway currently living with dementia and no treatments available on the NHS, there has never been a more pressing time to support dementia research.
Chris Longden, managing director, said:“ There is a huge amount of work to be done in researching both prevention and cure. What a privilege it has been for us to play a small part in supporting Alzheimer’ s Research UK.”
MAIDSTONE LITFEST LAUNCHES ITS ANNUAL SCHOOLS COMPETITIONS
Maidstone LitFest is thrilled to announce the return of their annual children’ s writing competition for schools in Maidstone and the surrounding areas following its highly successful launch last year.
Children aged five to 14 are encouraged to submit a short story or poem, with entries judged by a children’ s author, book editor and a local bookseller. The competition is a fantastic opportunity for children to dive into the world of storytelling to foster imagination and make writing an exciting adventure.
Schools can enter a draw to win a visit from a children’ s author, giving their students an opportunity to be inspired by words, writing and storytelling, and hear about the author’ s experiences. The schools programme will run from 29 September- 3 October, with the main festival running from 4- 11 October.
“ We strive to make the programme as inclusive and diverse as possible, welcoming writers of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences- including those from underrepresented communities,” said schools programme lead, Jessica Stockwell.
