DAISY ELEANOR iK FEATURES WRITER daisy @ sidewaysmedia. co. uk
I joined Sideways Media last July for a summer internship before becoming a features writer for the insideKENT editorial team in September. Having worked on the Kent Staycation, Days Out and Food and Drink sections of iK, my favourite pieces to write so far have been on stargazing, coastal walks and Kent’ s literary connections for World Book Day last month.
Outside of work, I love all things creative: scrapbooking, writing poetry in the garden and baking( in my opinion, the best flavour) lemon drizzle cakes. I’ m a pretty big homebody, except for when it comes to live music. My friends always joke that if I haven’ t replied to their texts, I’ m probably at a concert- and they’ re usually right. Living in Kent, there are so many places to explore that are extremely special during the springtime, with the cherry blossoms, forget-me-nots and wild tulips now in bloom. Here are my favourite places to visit.

TOP SECOND-HAND BOOKSHOP As England’ s largest rare and second-hand bookshop, Baggins Book Bazaar stocks everything from the poetry of Emily Dickinson to contemporary classics by Margaret Atwood. If you couldn’ t tell from the Hobbit-themed name, this bookshop is an adventure in itself, so be sure to clear the day’ s calendar before visiting.
TOP COSY CAFE
Nestled within the heart of historic Canterbury, you’ ll find Canterbury Tails Cat Cafe, the UK’ s largest feline-friendly place where you can enjoy the company of 28 fourlegged friends alongside plantbased food and drink. Be sure to try their ice cream soda float and say hi to my favourite cat, Garibaldie!
TOP WOODLAND WALK
Around 50 % of the world’ s bluebells can be found within the UK, and to see them carpet Kent’ s woodlands in spring is a nature-lover’ s dream. Between mid-April and the end of May, these purple perennials can be found at The King’ s Wood in Challock, where both seasoned hikers and casual walkers can enjoy the six-kilometre sculpture trail.
