Ultimately striving to not only transform the look of a space but have a positive impact on a homeowner ’ s wellbeing and happiness too , Tunbridge-Wells-based Joss Miller Interiors have sympathetically redesigned homes , often period or listed properties , since 2016 . Lovingly restoring character and charm , they also introduce contemporary elements to improve the way clients use their homes on a day-to-day basis .
What inspired you to pursue a career in interior design ? I ’ ve always felt our homes and our wellbeing are intrinsically linked , and following a number of personal home renovations and the birth of my daughter in 2016 , I was inspired to start Joss Miller Interiors . Becoming a mother and inevitably spending more time at home made me realise more than ever how important your space at home is and how it makes you feel . Since setting up my business I have worked with clients in Kent , Sussex and London - I have not only had the privilege of witnessing how interior design brings personality and warmth to properties , but also how the process inspires creativity and happiness in the home . I now have a small team who help me deliver projects and we work with a trusted team of contractors and trades experts who execute our designs impeccably .
Is there a particular aesthetic / design style that defines your work ? Our designs begin with a neutral , calming palette and we introduce layers of texture and colour to add sophistication and warmth to our schemes . The Joss Miller Interiors ’ signature style is classic and elegant , with a hint of modern or rustic charm depending on the property and brief . We blend our expertise with our clients ’ visions , and in doing so we achieve a truly bespoke scheme for each project , while ensuring quality , cohesiveness and harmony throughout .
What are the first steps in your design process on a new project ? Following an in-depth client consultation , we meet with the team , often including the architect and contractor , to agree the schedule , budget and any design practicalities before presenting the curated design concepts to the client for approval . We offer a full turnkey service , from design to installation and styling , which includes a full procurement package . We also offer a design consultation service only – if clients would like to source products themselves , this service includes design direction , brand recommendation and product specifications .
Do you have a favourite project ? What made it so special ? Each project is very unique , so it ’ s difficult to have a favourite . We work with clients on small-scale projects and also large-scale new builds , home renovations and extensions - it ’ s always a pleasure to design a home in its entirety to ensure flow throughout and complete a full home transformation for the clients , although sometimes the smaller projects such as a master suite , bathroom or nursery bring such joy too !
How do you incorporate sustainable practices into your designs ? Our schemes are curated to achieve a timeless aesthetic and therefore we design interiors and source products with durability and longevity in mind , which our clients will hopefully treasure and love for years to come . We champion bespoke , handmade furniture and soft furnishings when the budget permits , not only to add personality and beauty to homes , but to provide clients with products that will stand the test of time . We are also committed to working with contractors , architects and suppliers to offer a sustainable service and designs .
