KENT ARTIST PROFILE
AMELIA POSSEE
HAVING A LIFELONG ADORATION FOR THE CRAFT AND A DESIRE TO HAVE HER PASSION PRESENT THROUGHOUT EVERY PERFORMANCE , AMELIA POSSEE ( KNOWN AS PIANIST AMELIA ) IS AN EXTRAORDINARILY TALENTED KENT-BASED PIANIST WHO REGULARLY PERFORMS AT WEDDINGS AND SPECIAL EVENTS ACROSS THE COUNTY , PROMISING GUESTS AN ENCHANTING SHOWCASE TO REMEMBER . AMELIA IS ALSO PASSIONATE ABOUT ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO EMBRACE AND DISCOVER THEIR INDIVIDUALITY AND CONFIDENCE ON THEIR OWN MUSICAL JOURNEY .
Tell us about your musical journey . Has the piano always been your instrument ? Music has always been in my family . I remember as a young child at home we had inherited my great grandmother ’ s piano and my mum used to play it . I would dance around the room and sing to the songs she played . By the age of six , I was learning the violin and then at eight I learned to play the piano , too . I found both instruments equally rewarding and challenging , but I always preferred to ‘ perform ’ on the piano , whether it be the latest piece I had learned or a Christmas concert for my family .
What and / or who have been your biggest musical influences ? I have to give a huge amount of credit here to my old piano teacher who patiently guided me through many years of exams to help me get to where I am today . Although we stopped our lessons together several years ago now , I will always remember the fun , laughter and passion she taught me with . One of my favourite modern composers and musical influences is Ludovico Einaudi . I find his mellow tones simplistic yet beautiful and my dream is to see him in concert . John Williams without doubt is another huge inspiration . For me , his compositions are the epitome of emotional musical storytelling , something I aspire to do with my performances .
How has your musical style evolved and how would you define it today ? I am classically trained , but my style has definitely evolved me into a more modern romantic-style pianist . People often describe my music as Bridgerton style , so you might be hearing a pop or rock song being played with a classical twist ! I like writing my own covers of modern pop songs , adding my personality and style into the piece . I also like writing mashups ; there ’ s nothing more satisfying than a seamless blend between two random songs . I recently did a Love Actually vs Beyonce mashup which was so popular - one of my brides even walked down the aisle to it last June !
What has been the most memorable Kentish event you have performed at ? Why ? It has to be when I performed under the giant Christmas tree at the Folkestone Harbour Arm Festive Marketplace . It actually snowed at one point , so I had fingerless gloves , electric hand warmers and lots of hot drinks to hold ! Despite the cold , nothing really compares to playing your favourite festive songs to hundreds of happy shoppers in a Christmas marketplace surrounded by twinkling lights and the smell of mulled wine !
You enjoy teaching your craft to others ; what advice would you give to any budding Kent musicians ? I do ! I absolutely love teaching the piano
and every musical journey I take with my students is completely different . My advice would be that as a musician you have to find your unique style and accept that this won ’ t suit everyone . This is something I talk about even with my youngest students ; when you enjoy what you play , you play with confidence . You must find a style you love , play it with passion and never let anyone convince you music has to be complicated or difficult to be beautiful . Music is there for everybody .
Artistically , what are you most looking forward to in 2025 ? I can ’ t wait to record and release some of my original pieces . It ’ s my ambition for someone to walk down the aisle to one of my compositions ! Hopefully 2025 will be the year for this ; fingers crossed .
