Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 under the name of Tonebrige , the town is attractively nestled along a stretch of the River Medway and is the proud home of the outstanding Tonbridge Castle . Both the river and the castle are uniquely located just steps away from the main high street and are true testaments to Tonbridge ’ s longevity and prosperity that , when paired with a perfect amount of contemporary flair , makes for a wonderful example of Kent ’ s ever-pleasing charm .
