SQUARE ONE PADEL – PREMIER INDOOR PADEL CLUB OPENS IN ASHFORD
A new state-of-the-art indoor padel and social club has opened its doors in Ashford . The cutting-edge facility promises to raise the padel experience for players of all levels , offering a unique combination of worldclass courts , social spaces and fitness facilities just 38 minutes from London . Square One aims to nurture young talent through its youth training programmes and will offer an over-60 ’ s programme for those seeking fitness and social interaction in later life .
Founded by local businessman Sam De Haan , Square One Padel is Kent ’ s first dedicated indoor padel club , ensuring year-round play with its fully enclosed courts . Sam , who discovered padel during a European work trip , was determined to bring the sport ’ s energy and excitement to the UK , saying : “ Padel is a fantastic sport for everyone and that ’ s why it ’ s grown so quickly in popularity . The Square One Padel Centre has been designed with top of the range professional equipment providing an all-weather , every-season facility for enthusiasts and seasoned professionals , as well as beginners .”
SEVENOAKS ’ TRISTAN THOMPSON WINS BAFTA ’ S 2024 YOUNG PRESENTERS COMPETITION
BAFTA has named 14-year-old Tristan Thompson , a student at Sevenoaks School , as the winner of its national Young Presenters Competition , one of BAFTA ’ s key initiatives for children and young people spotlighting and nurturing the nation ’ s budding creative talent .
To enter the competition , children and young people aged between 10 - 18 years old were invited to submit a short video on what ‘ My Voice Matters ’ means to them , linked to the theme of Children ’ s Mental Health Week . A panel of expert industry helped assemble the shortlists and winning entrants , including Andrew Miller and Ogo A . Joy .
Competition winner Tristan Thompson , said : “ Becoming a BAFTA Young Presenter is truly an amazing opportunity . I entered the competition to try something new in this industry which I love and I am so thankful to BAFTA for making me a small part of this awesome world . I can ’ t wait to grow with them , to connect with some of my favourite actors and presenters , and to step onto the BAFTA red carpet !”
CHARITY WORKER LIVING WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS TAKES ON 10 PEAKS CHALLENGE
Canterbury resident , Ann-Marie Bundock , diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ( MS ) in 2016 , bravely took on the ultimate challenge of climbing the Lake District ’ s 10 Peaks in one day to raise money for the Kent MS Therapy Centre , a charity supporting those living with multiple sclerosis as well as other neurological conditions .
The challenge itself is a tough one , which saw the group - including Ann-Marie ’ s close friend Kim Burton , charity CEOs Heidi Coleman and Rupert Mitchell , and partner of the charity ’ s head of income generation , Nancy Reed - led by an experienced guide - taking on 10 summits including Scafell Pike in one 14.5-mile long push with approximately 5,479-foot of uphill climb .
Ann-Marie , who lives with multiple sclerosis , started as a volunteer at the centre and is now the health & safety and HR administrator for the charity . “ The centre means a lot to me as eight years ago my life changed forever when I received a diagnosis of relapsing remitting MS ,” she said . “ Although most people are shocked by my MS diagnosis , I fight a strong battle every day to keep myself strong mentally and physically . I was very lucky to find the centre shortly after diagnosis , as I know most are not so lucky . The Kent MS Therapy Centre has helped me so much over the years . The main therapies I receive at the centre include oxygen therapy , massage and reflexology . I now do my best to give back everything I can to help ensure its future to help those who are diagnosed with the disease .”
