Planting their first vineyards in 2002 on the beautiful Hush Heath Estate , Balfour Winery began with a vision to make a pink sparkling wine of equivalent quality to Billecart Salmon Rosé . Launched two years later , the wine soon became a major success , winning a gold medal and trophy in the International Wine Challenge for its first vintage . Balfour Winery quickly expanded to a state-of-the-art winery and tasting room , now growing over 100 different clonal and varietal combinations of grapes . Planted on Wealden clay soils , chalk and greensand , these vineyards notoriously produce wines of poise and balance with clean character .
