MACKNADE & WASTED KITCHEN : THE PARTNERSHIP THAT SHOWS THE FUTURE OF FOOD
Macknade , one of Kent ’ s leading foodie destinations , has partnered with the innovative team at Wasted Kitchen to turn traditional food ‘ waste ’ into tasty , nutritious meals . At the heart of this collaboration , Wasted Kitchen purchases surplus produce from its food hall to create high quality meals , salads , ferments and pickles from what would otherwise be going to waste .
Wasted Kitchen has been recognised by the BBC , being shortlisted for Best Street Food and Best Takeaway , and Best Small Eatery at the BBC Radio 4 Food & Farming Awards , as well as being featured in the channel ’ s upcoming programme , Food Waste . “ For me , it ’ s hugely personal ,” said Katy Newton , founder of Wasted Kitchen . “ We take the surplus stock , the bits that people simply don ’ t want , and give them a total new lease of life . We don ’ t see waste , we see an opportunity and a resource to help us tackle the climate and food crisis we ’ re seeing across the globe .”
DARTFORD COUNCIL ’ S LEN GOODMAN TRIBUTE WILL GET THE PUBLIC DANCING
A celebration of Len Goodman ’ s life and his contribution to Dartford will be captured in a new public artwork by artist Adrian Riley . Dartford Borough Council has commissioned the talented young artist to create a lasting tribute to the former dance instructor , Strictly Come Dancing judge and TV star who died in 2023 aged 78 . Taking pride of place outside the Goodman Dance Academy in Dartford town centre , it will be a playful celebration of a much-loved man who , despite soaring to worldwide fame at the age of 60 , was still happy to describe himself as “ a dance teacher from Dartford who got lucky ”.
Mr Riley , whose art has been previously commissioned by the NHS , the National Trust and English Heritage , said : “ I want people to be inspired to place their feet on the diagrams and dance some of the steps while surrounded by memories of Len ’ s great wit , pathos and love of life .” Leader of the council , Jeremy Kite , added : “ Len Goodman deserves to have the kind of tribute that gets people ’ s toes tapping .”
