The second outpost for its Hong Kong-based hospitality group founders , Page8 opened in 2021 , seamlessly repurposing the former corner office building home of The Post Office and Redwood Publishing into a stylish bolthole for urban explorers . Aided not least by its unique position surrounded by a thriving metropolis of theatres , restaurants and shopping , Page8 ’ s offering is also underpinned by an ethos of city connectivity and social exploration . Extending to specially created guidebooks , insider tips , curated events and itineraries , there are also clever social spaces too , including Page Common , the ground floor coffee shop / reception area that welcomes you all at once into a hipster coffee joint , social brunch spot and a remote work heaven .
Unsure whether to check in and ascend to the perfectly formed rooms above , or take root with a freshly baked pastry and deep , rich flat white ( if needing any reassurance to the attention to detail here , the house-blend allegedly took some six months to perfect …) as Page Common also serves as the hotel ’ s breakfast spot - the avocado toast is a must - it was the former that my guest and I opted for , heading to our superior first-floor room that offered picturesque views of the National Gallery and the bustling streets below .
One of 138 rooms that range from standard twins and doubles to superior , deluxe and family rooms , and junior suites , it followed the hotel ’ s uniform bedroom style : dazzling white walls , rich deep royal blue headboards , bronze accents and kingsize beds . I can only describe it as the bedroom version of a Globe Trotter suitcase ; a great , clean lined , simplistic yet sophisticated antidote to the city below . Alongside Marshall speakers which connect to the hotel ’ s curated playlists , retro phones , mini bar and Nespresso machine , there are also clever electronic blinds , which are completely blackout , and , reassuringly for such a centrally based hotel , the windows are seriously soundproofed too !
More than just a place to rest your head , Page8 encourages you to be curious , which of course thanks to its unique location makes navigating the capital a breeze . Taxis are continually passing , the tube is a few minutes ’ walk , as is The Mall , the Strand , Tottenham Court Road and Covent Garden , in fact , it ’ s one of the most convenient London locations I have ever had the pleasure to stay at .
Once back from city adventuring , you can once again grab a great coffee or perhaps better still you can ascend to the hotel ’ s rooftop bar and restaurant . Served by its own entrance or accessible lift , Kitty Hawk is a herringbonefloored , statement lighting-lit oasis of luxury . Book a table to enjoy weekend brunch , the useful pre-theatre menu or range of larger plates , or , like us , nab an intimate barside table to indulge in the curated signature cocktail menu and bar snacks – it ’ s the perfect spot for a London sunset and to sit back into the night framed by the glow of the London Eye ’ s evening lights .
