Looking back , August , though largely wonderful , is a funny old month . It seems to play out in fast forward : the end of the school summer term blending into an annual family holiday , which then morphs into typically rainy Great British Summer picnics and culminates in a busy bank holiday that signals when it ’ s all over . In a flash . That ’ s why I adore September . It ’ s always sunny , the pace is that little bit slower , and it heralds autumn – a season characterised by fresh starts and crisp , cosy evenings .
September in Kent in glorious ; being such a bucolic and bountiful county , we are lucky to have the harvest in full swing at this time of year , with some of the UK ’ s very best growers , makers and producers reaping the rewards of their hard work . To celebrate this season of abundance , ripeness and prosperity , from page 62 we ’ re celebrating The Garden of England ’ s bumper crops with a range of features delving into Kent ’ s harvest time history , from way back when to the present day , exploring everything from farm to fork , vine to wine and grain to glass , including where to sample such delights .
Speaking of sampling delights , I ’ ve been lucky enough to relish the glitz and glam of London landmark The Ritz recently – specifically , the mouthwatering menu at The Ritz
Restaurant , which exceeded expectations . And further afield , the whole Ready clan got to explore Elounda , a sun-soaked , foodie paradise on the northeastern shore of Crete – turn to page 110 for some travel inspiration .
