Samphire Hoe , Dover Best for accessibility
Despite the plentiful choice of beaches on the Kentish coastline , not all are easy to visit or venture across . One such beach you needn ’ t worry about accessing though is Samphire Hoe , a nature reserve nestled on the coastline of Dover . Samphire Hoe boasts 30 hectares of picturesque views and has received 17 Green Flag Awards , a credit celebrated by well-managed parks and green spaces across the world .
Samphire Hoe was originally created by chalk that was dug out to create the Channel Tunnel , the undersea railway tunnel connecting England to France . At present , it ’ s a shingle and pebble oasis home to an abundance of wildlife - including 200 varieties of plants and 220 bird species .
You can learn more about the Hoe by reading the information boards speckled along its coastline that follow the wheelchair-accessible sea wall . Though the water at Samphire Hoe is not suitable for swimming , there is a two-mile coastal trail that is stile-free and allows dogs if kept on leads .
