Based in Yorkshire , The Main Company is a family-run business which has been creating unique , bespoke kitchens since the 1970s . Incorporating both classic and contemporary designs , each project is personal and handmade by The Main Company ’ s team of master craftsmen using a range of authentic materials and techniques . To complement their kitchens , The Main Company is also one of the largest suppliers of reclaimed timber in the UK , offering a range of furniture designs , engineered and reclaimed flooring and cladding .
Why were you chosen for the project ? The homeowners visited some friends who lived in a similar house to theirs and fell in love with their kitchen , which was installed and designed by us . They visited our showroom in London where we met with them and we started designing the kitchen from there .
What was the design objective for the Waters Edge kitchen ? The homeowners love to cook and entertain , so a large , open-plan kitchen was essential . For the design , they wanted the kitchen to be airy , relaxed , well-constructed and comfortable , using natural materials to create an indoor-outdoor feel , paired with a colour palette that complemented the seaside location . They especially loved the ‘ lived-in ’ look , so wanted to incorporate reclaimed wood , which not only has an interesting history , but also offers the rustic and timeless aesthetic they wanted . In addition , they also specified that they wanted highquality appliances throughout including two ovens , two induction hobs , two sinks and two dishwashers , with plenty of worktop space too , all centered around a spacious island .
How did you begin the design process ? The design process started when the homeowners visited our showroom . From there , they had a clear idea of what they wanted from the space – from the daily use to the décor . We worked closely with them from design concept through to completion .
What was your design / installation timeframe ? The kitchen renovation was part of a whole house transformation which started in April 2021 . Once planning permission was approved , the homeowners started by removing the 1970 ’ s extension at the rear of the house . The space then became their new open-plan kitchendiner and we started working there in 2022 . The homeowners then moved in at Christmas that year .
Were there any project pitfalls ? The renovation work was carried out during and just after lockdown meaning we were naturally challenged with the availability of materials , transport and a workforce . For some products , such as the sink for
