BURNING DESIRES PYROGRAPHY
We started in pyrography ( wood burning ) after a fortuitous , chance encounter with someone in a Welsh craft centre around 15 years ago . A few Christmas presents for nieces and nephews turned out to be the start of a growing business . As Burning Desires , we have worked our way up from humble craft fairs and village fetes to much larger events . However this year , we have taken a slightly different tack and have a regular shop in the Marketplace at the up-and-coming Folkestone Harbour Arm .
Burning Desires make lots of boxes , from memory boxes to jewellery boxes , each with unique , handcrafted designs , which we personalise on the spot . We have made items for many different occasions : weddings , birthdays , christenings and much more , specialising in custom designs and portrait pieces . We make a lot of commemorative pet plaques and , as dog owners , are always honoured to be trusted to immortalise people ’ s furry friends . We have had quite a few military commissions along the way .
Notably , one for the tank regiment , which was presented to the mayor of Monte Cassino by the daughter of one of the veterans . We have also made pieces for the King ’ s Own Scottish Borderers and Princess of Wales ’ s Royal Regiment and London Guards . We have also recently made some unique ukuleles featuring wolves , Celtic knots and even Bob Marley . A recent phone call led to us making a name sign for Holmstone Wood , a fantastic rewilding conservation project in Dover , and we are excited about future collaborations on projects at the woods with the owner , Will Dodds .
