KENT MS THERAPY CENTRE
THE KENT MS THERAPY CENTRE IS AN INDEPENDENT CHARITY BASED IN CANTERBURY AIMING TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS ( MS ) AND OTHER LONG-TERM HEALTH CONDITIONS .
The Kent MS Therapy Centre provides a range of non-invasive therapies , classes , exercise , specialist clinics and information sessions with the aim of helping people alleviate symptoms , manage their condition and improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing . The centre has an oxygen therapy tank , a hydrotherapy pool , a gym with bespoke equipment for those with a limited range of mobility , a physiotherapy room and treatment rooms for complementary therapies .
Who we help The centre is here to support anyone affected by MS or other long-term health conditions such as ME / CFS , stroke , fibromyalgia , cancer and diabetes . Membership is also open to family members , carers or friends . There is an annual membership fee and if you are interested in becoming a member , all you need to do is visit their website and fill out a ‘ New Enquiry Form ’ on the homepage .
Social hub The centre is powered by an incredible community and houses a fantastic social area for members , carers , volunteers , family and friends which provides a safe space to share experiences and problems .
Support from the Kent community Kent MS Therapy Centre are delighted to work with a wide range of independent businesses across Kent . One of the ways in which they are supported is through Charity of the Year partnerships with supporters such as Hayne House wedding venue in
Saltwood and they are looking forward to hosting some events at this stunning location assisted by their suppliers this summer . Throughout the year , the centre holds various raffles and auctions at their events which allow them to showcase the best that Kent has to offer through the generous donations businesses make to them . This includes a wide range of local wine tastings at various Kentish vineyards , vouchers at renowned restaurants such as The Corner House and Quince , and family friendly days out at Huckleberry Woods in Faversham . They are so grateful for these donations as they allow them to maximise fundraising at thier events ; as a charity , they do not receive government or NHS funding , so the support of the local community is hugely important to them .
How to support Kent MS Therapy Centre
• Come and visit their charity shop , which is located within the centre building on Canterbury ’ s Merton Lane North . They have free parking and all clothes and accessories are only £ 1 ! You can also get teas and coffees and are welcome to use the social area .
• Donate towards their work . They are grateful for any support you can give - you can either pop in with a donation or visit the website and click the donate button in the top right-hand corner of the site .
• Take part in some fundraising ! The centre has a list of events on their website that you can get involved in .
Member story :
Gavin is an MS Member at the Kent MS Therapy Centre . In 2017 , he was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS and retired one year later on medical grounds . It took a year to diagnose . The biggest improvement to Gavin ’ s MS and his journey with it has been coming to the centre . “ As soon as I walked through the doors and was welcomed in by the friendly staff and other members , I felt like I ’ d become part of a little family ,” he says . “ I was made to feel settled straight away and coming here feels like no effort at all . I even count the days between my weekly visits !”
Gavin uses the hydrotherapy and oxygen therapy services . “ My oxygen treatment makes my mind come alive and I really feel like I can do anything , despite knowing that I ’ m still limited physically ,” he adds . As well as benefiting from the services provided by the centre , Gavin has used the fantastic community of fellow MS members to learn more about MS . “ My wife and I don ’ t necessarily understand MS ,” he says . “ But the community at the centre helps us to be able to live with it .”
