THE SUN IS SHINING , THE BLUEBELLS ARE BLOOMING AND KENT ’ S TOURISM BUSINESSES ARE GEARING UP TO OPEN THEIR DOORS TO HORDES OF VISITORS OVER THE COURSE OF KENT ’ S BIG WEEKEND .

On 20 - 21 April , winners of the Big Weekend ballot will enjoy complimentary entry to some of the finest attractions across the county . From glorious gardens to historic houses and family days out , Visit Kent has put together a weekend that celebrates the absolute best that Kent has to offer .

Taking a look at what local residents will be enjoying this month , let ’ s take a little bit of inspiration for a sensational spring day out in thriving Kent .
Step Back in Time In the heart of the city , nestled amidst the rolling hills , or sat beside the sea , Kent ’ s castles , churches and historic buildings proudly punctuate the Kent landscape . Discover England ’ s first cathedral in Canterbury , resting place of saints and royals , and admire the medieval stainedglass windows and intricately carved tombs . Head to Dover Castle , sitting high
DOVER CASTLE atop the White Cliffs , or Deal and Walmer Castle , all with perfect panoramic sea views and packed full of history . In the west of Kent , picturesque Scotney Castle is a quintessential moated fortress set in a stunning wooded estate - a delightful place to spend a spring day .
For heritage combined with a flash of flora and fauna , try Penshurst Place , Godinton House or Mount Ephraim , all of which are home to gorgeous garden displays , acres of woodland and stunning countryside views .
Into the Wild Get up close and personal with nature at Eagle Heights , an animal sanctuary in Eynsford that is home to magnificent birds of prey as well as farm animals , meerkats and more ! For falconry and owl flying displays , as well as a huge range of active adventures , visitors can also try the Kent Falconry Centre based in the idyllic gardens of Belmont House .
For more hands-on wildlife experiences , Kent Wildlife Trust ’ s Tyland Barn is offering pond dipping sessions , while reserves at West Blean and Thornden Woods will be tracking the wild bison herd on their popular Wilder Kent Safaris .
Cheers to the Big Weekend ! The sheer volume of wineries , distilleries and breweries taking part in Kent ’ s Big Weekend this year is testament to the county ’ s incredible food and drink scene - which of course we all know is up there with the best of the best !
Whatever your tipple , there ’ s an experience bound to set your taste buds a-tingling as you delve into the fascinating making processes , and of course sample some of Kent ’ s finest produce .
Wine aficionados mustn ’ t miss family-run Biddenden Vineyard , Kent ’ s original vineyard producing award-winning juice , ciders and wines , or Balfour Winery on the Hush Heath Estate , delivering an incredible winemaking experience . Don ’ t forget to drop into Tudor Peacock if you ’ re in the Chilham area , an independent Kentish wine tasting room , shop and bar – wine , cheeseboards and oysters all under one roof !
Spoiled for choice when it comes to brewery tours ? Head to Curious Brewery in Ashford , the Foundry Brew Pub in Canterbury , or Shepherd Neame in Faverham in search of the perfect pint . If it ’ s a crisp G & T you ’ re after , try Maidstone Distillery ’ s excellent tutored tasting experience - gin cocktails included !
