Step 2 : Choose Your Container
If you ’ re wanting a stunning classic , go with a wicker basket like ours . Or , if you ’ re really going full Kentish , take a look at John Waller ’ s Underwoodsman ( underwoodsman . co . uk ) and his collection of wicker baskets : a beautiful local option . Keep in mind that something reusable or made from a sustainable material is always best .
Want to stand out from the hamper crowd ? Opt for a large plant pot for a greenfingered recipient , a cake tin for your star baker , or how about a fun Christmas mug for a little one , work pal or teacher ? Filled with tea / coffee , biscuits and chocolates this is a great budget friendly pick . We ’ ve even seen a foot spa repurposed as a hamper packed full of facemasks , bubble bath and lotions ! As a guide , a small container should aim to have four to five individual gifts , a medium-sized seven to eight and a large 10 - 12 as a minimum .
Step 3 : Selecting Your Gifts
Combine a whole heap of different recipients , all with different wants and needs , with a plethora of tempting Kentish eats , drinks , produce , gifts and experiences , and the hamper possibilities are endless . But of course that becomes the main problem . So , instead of getting waylaid with too many choices , set a theme for your hamper when it comes to selecting what goes in it .
We ’ re calling ours The Kent Produce Lover ! This hamper is ready to be laden with non-perishable Kentish made jams , oils , chutneys , crisps , dips , tipples , beauty items , homeware and more .
Although your hamper may have a theme , variety is still super important . With ours we considered having both savoury and sweet foods , drinks that included fizz or wine , plus a cider or beer , and a non-alcoholic drink or cordial . We also included beauty items and something Christmassy for the home .
Step 4 : Arranging Your Gift Hamper
Start by placing your largest and heaviest gifts in the back of your hamper . Always place shorter and smaller items in front , arranging them in a way that all gifts are visible . Pop gift vouchers in brightly coloured envelopes ( that tie in with any colour theme ) to ensure they stand out – especially when these are often the most expensive hamper addition . Use tissue paper or shredded paper ( we ’ ve gone for golden shredded tissue from Hobbycraft ) to help boost the height of any item that may not be quite as visible and to fill in any empty space and fill the gaps between each item . We also included some evergreen sprigs ( pine ) from our garden , which created a lovely , natural , Scandi-style touch , and a red ribbon – the epitome of Christmas gift wrapping .
