THE PIG HOTELS LAUNCHES THEIR OWN ENGLISH FIZZ
THE PIG Hotels are ready to pop the cork on their very first bottles of PIG English fizz . These two sparkling wines are made with grapes from Bee Tree Vineyard in East Sussex , owned by Dermot and Ana Sugrue of award-winning winemaker Sugrue South Downs . The wines are THE PIG Reserve , a 2019 sparkling cuvée ( PR for short ) and Lobster Shed Pink , a 2018 sparkling rosé ( LSP ).
Crafted with precision and a sense of place , THE PIG ’ s Lobster Shed Pink boasts an elegant blend of 85 % pinot noir and 15 % pinot meunier and has a distinctive character featuring notes of wild strawberry , garden herbs and shortcrust pastry . Equally captivating , THE PIG Reserve is a union of 78 % pinot noir and 22 % chardonnay and has a genuine complexity reminiscent of sourdough , baked tangerine and ginger .
“ As long-term supporters of English sparkling wine , our wine team at THE PIG have been talking about creating our own label for some time ,” says THE PIG founder , Robin Hutson . “ We are very excited to have now found delicious mature South Downs stock that will last us for the next couple of years . Starting with Bee Tree Vineyard in East Sussex and then moving over to Northbrook Springs from Hampshire next year , both of these vineyards have the quality of fruit and provenance we were looking for .”
