Now , bear with me , because it is of course very difficult to fully bring to life our experience of The Morgue ( without the scare actors for this jaunt for fear of never seeing Mia our apprentice at work again …) without spoiling the ending ( or the middle or the beginning ), but let me try my best to explain why the insideKENT crew had one of their best and still somewhat terrifying team days out in ages ; think problem solving , shouting , hiding , darkness and the odd body part or two * (* not our own thankfully !).
Picture the scene , you have arrived with your specially selected team of security staff ( in our case the sales team , a slightly bewildered publisher , an escape room newbie features writer , an escape room aficionado designer , a deadline-weary editor , and a slightly terrified apprentice ) ready to pull off the biggest and most terrifying security night shift Dover had ever seen .
On arrival , Kym set our scene , explaining everything from important health and safety through to the top tips of never forgetting what is in front of you ( and to look out at who may be behind us – gulp !) and to use all of our team ’ s wit and problem solving skills ! We were thrust some special equipment , told to forget any escape room experience we may have already had ( which is actually much harder than it sounds for you escape room regulars ), and were reminded to listen for some very special help from The Escape Goat team ; who ’ d be on hand to inject some timely advice along the way if we were getting waylaid !
Having deposited our belongings we were ready to embark on our shift !
In just 60 minutes we would need to outwit the dead , break into The Morgue and escape with our lives !
Descending to the dimly lit funeral home estate we were soon caught up in the nervous excitement of whether we would solve the room and escape with our pride and our souls intact .
In a marked difference to many escape room setups , Kym ’ s natural storytelling , which when combined with scare actors too brings a whole new level of authenticity and thrill seeking , has done away with the typical escape room premise of , in most cases , simply finding locks and keys to break out , to really thrust you into the world of fright and increase the already clock-ticking adrenaline rush that escape rooms bring .
After some frantic moments , a few scary moments , some guts and gore , some quite close contact under a sheet ( don ’ t ask !) and some utter brilliance on behalf of each of the members of iK ’ s team of security professionals , we emerged triumphant in a close call time of 58 minutes ! And of course promptly rewarded our security endeavours with a howling look at our CCTV footage much to the delight of Kym !
Suitable for teams of 2 - 8 , The Morgue is a great way of testing your puzzle solving skills , pumping your adrenalin , and , if you dare , further testing your nerve with live scare actors too , all while having a whole heap of fun along the way . Even the end debrief , where you ’ ll be able to unpick the things you were super quick to cotton onto and the areas where you let your security team down ( never !), brings added fun and laughter to your experience .
Whether you are an escape room regular , are looking for a family day out or a team building experience like no other , or simply fancy testing your nerve … The Morgue is not to be missed !
Our security team * cannot wait for our next The Escape Goat adventure …
* Except Mia who really did have a morgue close encounter … But that would be telling … You ’ ll need to go yourself to find out why … Mwah ha ha ha !
