AS A TEAM OF CREATIVE MINDS WITH A COLLECTIVE LOVE OF MUSIC , TEAM iK JUMPED AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSFORM FROM OFFICE DJS TO SKILLED MUSIC MIXERS . BY MIA CHAPMAN
Headed and founded by Jon Glover , an expert DJ holding over 15 years ’ experience in the industry , Kent DJ Academy prides itself on being the first DJ school in Kent , offering training and advice to budding DJs through professional masterclasses , as well as holding team building experiences , perfect for testing those teamwork skills and boosting overall confidence . As team iK were set with the ultimate challenge to showcase our newly learnt skills at our very own 13th anniversary party that evening , it was time to get practising !
Split into two teams , the preparations began . As creators with a passion for all things visual and brand design , we delved into the initial tasks of coming up with our own DJ names and logos , truly taking the day to step back from our daily tasks to fully immerse ourselves in a whole new world of creativity .
Holding within our team what can only be described as an eclectic taste in music , the challenge of selecting our setlist was a test of our teamwork , but Jon ’ s enthusiasm to turn our favourite tracks into a seamless DJ-esque party mix never faltered , spurring us on to think outside the box and putting our new skills to the test . We crowded round the decks , experimented with songs and techniques , including matching tempos and the trick to mixing tracks , and began to envision our performance , being encouraged by Jon to focus on engaging with our audience but most importantly to have fun while doing so ; the secret to DJ success !
With the nerves kicking in and final practices undertaken ( mostly classic DJ deck spins that the team were determined to master !), it was time to take all we had learned and bring it to the stage . With support from our fellow colleagues and of course Jon on hand for any incoming mishaps , we showcased our hard work to expectant friends , clients and family . Celebrating a collation of our favourite hits and our team , and enjoying every second of our collective claim to fame .
Feeling relieved and ready to join in with the festivities , the team reflected on our day . Starting the morning with us all having never stepped foot in a DJ booth to ending with us headlining our own party , we can safely say we have been pushed out of our comfort zone and it paid off . Proud of our performances and what we had accomplished , and grateful for Jon and his never ending patience as well as for each other ' s support . We partied into the night and had a superb end to a great day , thank you Kent DJ Academy !
