BRAYLEY HONDA DEALERSHIP , ORPINGTON

AMANDA KILLEN IS A SALES EXECUTIVE AT BRAYLEY HONDA ORPINGTON . WE HAD A CHAT WITH HER TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HER ROLE , WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO BRAYLEYS AND , OF COURSE , HER FAVOURITE MODEL IN THE HONDA RANGE .
How long have you been in car sales ?
I have been in car sales for in total for around three years .
What first attracted you to the automotive industry and how did you apply for the job ?
I have a personal interest in cars and motorbikes and also wanted to pursue a career in sales so the two came hand in hand . I initially went through a recruitment company who offered a variety of companies but I chose Honda as it is my preferred brand .
During your interview , did you feel comfortable and was it what you expected ?
I felt slightly nervous to begin with as going into a car dealership can feel like you are entering the lion ' s den , but you soon realise how relaxed it is and how friendly everyone is so that did surprise me . The interview was a lot more laid back than I expected and I think with this sort of role , although it is good to have qualifications , it ' s more about the person you are and how you interact so I was myself and could relax .
How did your first day / week go ? Especially in what ’ s traditionally considered a male environment ?
My first week in car sales was fun and also hard ; it is a very fast paced role with lots to learn and where people are always busy so I was thrown in the deep end which is I felt was good as you learn a lot quicker . But now it ' s slightly different as you can be part of a trainee program , which wasn ’ t an opportunity when I first came into this role . It ’ s a male dominated environment still , but a lot less so than when I first started which is encouraging to see .
How did you hear about Brayleys Honda ?
I used to work for a Honda dealership which Brayleys took over and then researched and saw they are the largest privately owned Honda group in the UK .
Is there anything that stood out to you about Brayleys that made you want to join them after your interview ?
Yes , Brayleys is a thriving company which is always expanding . This makes it the perfect company in which to learn and progress .
What would you say is your favourite model in the range ?
It is hard to choose as all the models have various qualities , but if I had to choose one it would be the Honda Jazz .
Can you tell us about this model ?
It ’ s a small hatchback which has won multiple awards for being the best small car of the year . It utilises the space really well , with multiple customers referring to it as a tardis . It is very fuel efficient and has the magic seats ; special seats that can be moved in different ways to create extra room .
Is there any advice you would give for those who are considering purchasing or changing their car ?
I would say to buy from a dealership as opposed to private sale as you get peace of mind with the process which dealerships have to adhere to . Also to do some research , but then not too much as the best thing to do is to just come in and see if the car is for you .
Finally , for any female that has thought about joining the motor trade , what advice could you pass on ?
To be strong , independent and show the men how it ’ s done .
