DIVE INTO

A DAY TO REMEMBER

THE HISTORIC DOCKYARD CHATHAM ; A PLACE OF HISTORY NESTLED IN THE MEDWAY TOWNS . FROM FAMILY DAYS OUT AND AWESOME EVENT DAYS TO EXCITING EXHIBITIONS AND TALKS , ARE YOU READY TO SET SAIL INTO KENT ’ S BIGGEST DAY OUT ?
Return to the era known as the Age of Sail , when the dockyard built mighty ships that explored the world ’ s oceans . Test your sea legs on HMS OCELOT , a Cold War submarine ; explore HMS CAVALIER , a Second World War Destroyer ; and walk the deck of HMS GANNET , a Victorian sloop . Watch the Master Ropemakers at work using centuries-old techniques on our iconic ropewalk and explore the new Ropery Gallery .
From galleries and guided tours to adventure play areas , you ’ ll be relieved to know that great value entry tickets are valid for 12 months , allowing you to pick and mix your visits . There ’ s no need to rush and do it all in one day , especially with a packed programme of activities and events throughout the year . With Easter trails to complete , Octonauts landing in the summer , and monster crafts for Halloween , you can have your days out sorted for the year .
Throughout the year , British Sign Language and Audio Described tours are run , focussing on different themes and locations around the dockyard . In addition , regular relaxed opening afternoons take place on selected dates in school holidays for neurodiverse visitors .
And if that ’ s not enough to fill your diary , take a deep breath and plunge down to the dark murky depths of the ocean and discover the monsters that lurk beneath in the new exhibition , Monsters of the Deep .
Are there krakens with tentacles two miles long and giant sharks as big as skyscrapers ?
Curated by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall with the National Oceanography Centres ’ Discovery Collections , Monsters of the Deep breathes life into the supernatural and shows how the fantastical co-exists with science as we try to make sense of what lives in the depths of the ocean .
Handle real objects , try out the microscopes and understand what it felt like to be an explorer aboard a floating laboratory . Admission to Monsters of the Deep is FREE as part of an entry ticket to The Historic Dockyard .
“ This is a show to plumb the imagination . For the adults it might be almost as philosophical as it is fun for the kids …” The Times
