How did this particular project come about , can you explain the initial stages ?
The client conducted extensive research on slimline sliding doors and made an initial enquiry through our website . The first stage was to arrange a meeting with the client at home to discuss and understand their project brief and ideas and to gain a feel for their home and lifestyle .
The client came with the vision of building a glass box extension at the rear of the property ; this space would extend the kitchen and dining area . We spoke about creating a space that would act as an openplan living area , maximising the entertaining space for family and friends while focussing on light and making the most of the fantastic views surrounding the property .
There were other factors to consider ; being sympathetic to the existing older-style property , the energy efficiency of the glass and how the extension would complement the house ' s overall look .
We always invite our clients to our showroom to enable them to experience our brand and products ; gaining their confidence is essential to the design process . In this instance , after visiting the showroom , the client changed her original plans . After several further discussions with the design team , she was sold on slimline sliding doors all around the conservatory , with a floating corner at one end glass to glass corner at the other .
It is not uncommon for clients and architects to come to us with their plans , but after viewing our products and listening to our ideas , they alter and improve them .
How heavily involved was the client , and how much was your input ?
Due to a busy work and life schedule , it was important for our client to trust our ability to lead the project . Our client provided us with the main brief of capturing maximum light and openness throughout the property but provided the autonomy to explore and showcase new designs and ideas for how we believed the space should be best utilised .
We recommended the client go for a level threshold instead of a step-down feature for the glass box extension to create a more seamless transition between the interior and external living spaces . In addition , due to the glass box ' s south-facing position , we suggested applying solar-controlled glass in the glass box to reduce overheating . ARC Slimline 20 sliding doors were a perfect selection to achieve this .
Communication was vital throughout , ensuring that we could seamlessly work together and that they were involved throughout with project ideas and updates .
When a client decides to invest time and money in our service , it is imperative that we ensure our client feels confident in us and that we deliver on our promises with excellence .
Were there any pitfalls , things you came up against during the fitting process ?
This project was completed on the tail end of COVID-19 , resulting in many supplier issues . As a result , there was a worldwide shortage of the polyamide used in manufacturing aluminium products , which resulted in weeks of delays in obtaining the windows and doors . We understand that the glazing installation is a crucial part of any project to secure the property and for weather protection . Fortunately , a large portion of this project was replacement windows and doors . However , the curtain wall entrance and glass box were exposed to the elements .
Fortunately , this has improved massively , and we are now in the fortunate position where we can complete installations within four weeks of surveying .
Our client was also partaking in other landscape works in conjunction with our installations , and the landscape team altered last-minute designs for the patio area . Working closely with them and ensuring regular communication , we were able to adapt our strategy within the timescale , preventing any significant alterations or delays without sacrificing quality .
Communication is a vital component in any project we perform , ensuring we work seamlessly together with our clients and that they are involved throughout every stage of the project .
