Earn while you learn experience
6 - 12 FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK AND , IN LIGHT OF THE WORLD SLOWLY WAKING UP TO THE FACT THAT NOT EVERY PERSON ’ S PATH IS SHAPED BY POST-SCHOOL LEARNING , OUR VERY OWN FABULOUS INTERN , MIA CHAPMAN , SHARES HER VIEWS ON THE BENEFITS OF APPRENTICESHIPS .
In light of 6 - 12 February being National Apprenticeship Week , I have been reflecting on what apprenticeship schemes have done for my life . I am sure many young people just starting out will agree with me when I say , entering the working world is a very daunting step to take . Wondering if you are good enough , wondering what you have to offer , and where to even begin .
Not everyone is suited to academic pathways , college or university . You may have a creative flair , or a passion for something practical . Or maybe no idea at all on which path to take .
Whatever position you might now be in , apprenticeships are certainly something I would recommend . With them giving the chance to earn while you learn , experience workplace challenges firsthand , grow in confidence , and , most importantly , find your career path with an added qualification , whether you discover the job made for you , or you decide to embark on a whole new journey , each life lesson learned will be one to carry with you , wherever you might end up . Working in different environments has helped me know for sure that the best workplace for you is the one you feel most supported in , and that offers an environment that suits the way you need to learn , allowing you to understand your strengths and skills , and truly flourish .
With an inkling of my interests , I was fortunate enough to start as an intern with Sideways Media on the insideKENT team , leading to an amazing opportunity of an apprenticeship in an industry I have also been lucky enough to fall in love with and feel excited to pursue . I have been made to feel a valuable part of this team and cannot thank them enough . Observing my experienced colleagues in the workplace , I believe , has been the best training of all . I find myself in awe of their work and it has given me a whole new perspective on life , as well as a drive to push myself to places I wasn ’ t sure I could reach .
In the last few months , the most significant factors I have learned are that with hard work , a positive attitude , and throwing yourself into new and exciting opportunities , you can really achieve anything you put your mind to . Who knows where life could take you . As they say , the world really is your oyster !
