Christmas at Ightham Mote , Sevenoaks , 26 November - 30 December
With the days drawing in , and the temperatures beginning to fall , it ' s time to start looking ahead to the festive season . From 26 November you can immerse yourself in a Tudor Christmas at Ightham Mote , with music , lights and scents , inspired by the history of the site . Explore both floors of the decorated house and grounds and blow the cobwebs away with a crisp estate walk . Events include festive book art workshops and bauble making .
Enchanted Walmer Castle , Walmer , Deal , 27 November - 30 December
This Christmas , Kent ’ s favourite Tudor fortress turned country house will be illuminated for all to marvel at . Built on the orders of Henry VIII to defend England ' s southern shores , Walmer Castle later became a home for the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports - among them the Duke of Wellington and the Queen Mother . This season , wrap up warm to enjoy this imposing and unique castle by the sea illuminated against the dark December night .
ENGLISH HERITAGE ACROSS THE BORDER
Enchanted Eltham Place , Greenwich , London , 27 November - 30 December
Once a favoured medieval palace and then a Tudor royal residence , in the 1930s Eltham Palace was transformed by eccentric millionaires , Stephen and Virginia Courtauld . This festive season is the chance to see this quirky mix of medieval and modern in glorious illumination , a truly spectacular sight to behold as you grip your mulled wine or hot chocolate .
Eltham Place also has fairground rides to enjoy this year too and the chance to toast marshmallows under a starry sky .

One of England ’ s grandest mansions and what was once one of the largest and most opulent houses in Jacobean England will be lit up by English Heritage this season . Wander around the spacious grounds and admire the glorious gardens designed by Capability Brown under thousands of twinkling lights , including the beautifully restored parterre and organic kitchen gardens . Take a stroll over to the stable yard and meet the friendly horses before topping up your energy with a delicious festive treat in the cafe . Whether you ’ re exploring the servants ’ wing , state rooms , stables , kitchen garden or beautiful grounds , you ’ ll discover what life was like above and below stairs at a Victorian country house at Christmastime .
