WALK TONBRIDGE FESTIVAL RAISES NEARLY £ 19,000 FOR CHARITY
The second Walk Tonbridge Festival , which was supported once again by CooperBurnett LLP , raised nearly £ 19,000 for charity , with more than £ 13,000 heading to Sustain , the community food and fuel bank in Tonbridge , and the reminder going to F . E . A . S . T , Hildenborough School and Dementia UK . The £ 13,000 sent to Sustain equates to approximately 500 individual food parcels or 260 family food parcels . James Pavlou from Walk Tonbridge said : “ We could not have done this without our event supporters CooperBurnett , Escape Art Centre , Hilden Park Accountants , Tonbridge School , Absolute Creative Print or without the help of an army of friends , family and volunteers .” The event saw 75 brave participants tackle a 26.2 mile walk around Tonbridge and its surrounding villages . “ We are absolutely staggered by this generous amount and can ’ t thank everyone enough who has taken part and raised money for Sustain ,” said Jemma Graffin , community work coordinator at Tonbridge Baptist Church where Sustain is based . “ The only way for our most vulnerable families to get through this winter is by us all working together and supporting each other . Walk Tonbridge is a brilliant example of community action , bringing people together from across Tonbridge in a fun , active and creative way to support those who need it most .”
ST PANCRAS REVEAL THE FANTASTICAL HMS ALICE LIDDELL , A MAJOR NEW SITE-RESPONSIVE ART INSTALLATION
MAIDSTONE-BASED FILM PRODUCTION COMPANY SELECTED FOR INVESTOR PROGRAMME
Created by artist Shezad Dawood , the HMS Alice Liddell can now be seen suspended mid-air in The Circle area of St Pancras station . The artwork reflects elements of William Henry Barlow ’ s innovative and radical engineering of the station itself , as well as Sir George Gilbert Scott ’ s gothic spires of the now St . Pancras Renaissance Hotel . Its aesthetic and cultural heritage is profoundly embedded in the work ; the sculpture ’ s namesake is the real inspiration behind Lewis Carroll ’ s Alice in Wonderland . Carroll ’ s original manuscript is archived in the neighbouring British Library . Dawood ’ s work reclaims Alice as a traveller for our times : a proto-science fiction heroine who explored the quantum possibilities of multiple but connected realities and universes . Viewers can also move through the past to a kaleidoscopic future by experiencing the new Augmented Reality filter , listening to newly commissioned music and fresh podcasts to bring the artwork to life by scanning the QR code on display in the station with their phone to expand the experience of Dawood ’ s work .
