EDIBLECULTURE ’ S DAVID WARE BRINGS YOU HIS CHRISTMAS FAUX VS REAL TREE ADVICE
1 . With a fake tree , use it as long as you can and store it in a light proof box to slow the degrading of the plastic .
2 . With a real tree , buy a locally grown tree from a trusted supplier - for many independent shops a good Christmas this year will be the difference from make or break , so support local .
3 . If the tree is unnetted ask if they have a jute string option or even take the tree home unnetted ; most good shops will do this for you . At Edibleculture we used hop twine to bind the trees .
4 . Do not burn the tree when finished . Local councils will take them away for composting or you can cut up for home composting and create a nature log pile in your garden with the big bits .
If you can buy a live Christmas tree , they can last for up to seven years potted and can be planted out – this is the best environmental answer as it becomes carbon positive . At Edibleculture we have seen a real surge in interest in potted Christmas trees .
