MICALLEF JEWELLERS HAS BEEN A KENTISH INSTITUTION SINCE IT WAS FIRST ESTABLISHED BY FOUNDER MICHEL MICALLEF IN 1982 . NOW IN 2022 , THE INDEPENDENT , FAMILY RUN JEWELLERS IS CELEBRATING ITS 40TH BIRTHDAY . IN CELEBRATION OF THIS MOMENTOUS MILESTONE , insideKENT IS TAKING A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE AND PEEKING INTO THE FUTURE TO SEE WHAT HAS , AND WILL , CONTINUE TO MAKE MICALLEF JEWELLERS SUCH A SUCCESS .
Michel Micallef started his journey into the jewellery business as a trainee at John Cass College , later graduating to working in Hatton Garden . While honing his skills , Michel noticed a distinct gap in the market for a jeweller working freelance for independent jewellers within Kent . After some more research , Michel managed to acquire a premises in the heart of the Medway Towns and swiftly set up a business in his own name ; and so Micallef Jewellers was born .
Run by Michel and his wife Jacqueline , their first store was such a roaring success that 14 years ago they decided to open a branch in Tonbridge , and 11 years ago they added a Sevenoaks store to their growing empire . Once their daughter Sacha was old enough she also joined the team , making this booming business a real family affair . Which is the exact thing the Micallef family believes has made their business so successful ; being built on honest , reliable family values , Micallef Jewellers is proud to treat every customer like family , and has curated a community of customers who come back time and time again , always trusting the Micallefs to offer sensibly priced quality jewellery with the personalised , friendly and approachable service they are known for .
To celebrate this incredible anniversary , the whole Micallef Jewellers team , along with a few very special customers , gathered at Chilston Park Hotel to enjoy a decadent Champagne afternoon tea . They enjoyed an anniversary party fit for a 40th birthday and toasted to another four decades of family , hard work and prosperity for this Kentish institution .
Looking to the future it seems that Micallef Jewellers has no plans on slowing down , in fact the company has recently launched a new and improved , easy-to-navigate and beautifully designed website with added repair portal . This newly renovated avenue , as well as stunning social media pages showcasing the jeweller ’ s work , is set to grow the company to new heights , while as always keeping true and accessible to those loyal customers who have supported the business from its inception .
As a final tribute to this hard working family we asked the Micallefs what has been some of the most significant moments over the last 40 years . Jacqueline Micallef reminisced of when her daughter , Sacha joined the team “ bringing a new perspective and dynamic to the business .” Michel Micallef explained that “ Every-time a customer has walked away happy ” has been a special moment for him . Lastly , Sacha added that “ our business isn ’ t just a job , it is a way of life and a passion for all of us .”
